Your Ultimate Guide to May’s Top Catches and Hotspots in Naples Waters
Naples Bay - Collier, FL
The waters around Naples are buzzing with activity as we head into the end of May. Whether you’re casting inshore or venturing offshore, the fishing is delivering exciting opportunities for every angler.
Inshore & Backcountry Highlights Tarpon are showing up in strong numbers along the beaches and in the passes. Live blue crabs and mullet chunks are working well as bait, especially in the back bays where these giants cruise.
Snook and Redfish are feeding aggressively. Snook are gearing up for spawning season, making them particularly active around mangroves and oyster bars. Redfish are plentiful and ready to bite.
Spotted Sea Trout continue to bite consistently, with shrimp under popping corks proving very effective.
Offshore Action Permit and Tarpon are schooling nearshore, offering excellent sight fishing opportunities. Tarpon in the 70 to 170-pound range are being spotted regularly.
Amberjack and Barracuda are plentiful around wrecks, providing high-energy fights for anglers using both live bait and artificial lures.
Snapper and Grouper remain active, with mangrove snapper feeding well and goliath groupers presenting a tough challenge for those seeking a trophy catch.
Weather & Conditions Expect warm, humid weather typical of late spring in Southwest Florida. Afternoons may bring scattered thunderstorms, with daytime highs ranging from the mid-80s to low 90s, and evening lows in the mid-70s. These conditions create excellent fishing windows in the early mornings and late afternoons.
